With the advancement of medical science, IVF technology is being accepted by more and more people. Because IVF has successfully solved the problem of infertility, which has long troubled the medical community, it has brought joy to countless infertile families and greatly promoted the development of basic medical research and clinical application research. However, many people have also raised questions: Are children born from IVF healthy?

Below is some information compiled by the editor of Canadian Maple Leaf Fertility for your reference.

Many foreign studies have shown that test-tube babies are as healthy as naturally born children

It has been nearly 40 years since the first test-tube baby was born, and the first generation of test-tube babies are now parents. In recent decades, the United States and Canada have been tracking the growth and health of test-tube babies. Studies have shown that there is no difference in health and intelligence between test-tube babies and naturally conceived children.

In addition, researchers from the United Kingdom, Sweden and the United States analyzed data on 2.5 million children born between 1982 and 2007 through the Swedish National Health Registry to understand the relationship between IVF and autism and intellectual disability.

Of these children, more than 30,000 were test-tube babies, accounting for 1.2% of the total. Nearly 7,000 had autism, of which more than 100 were test-tube babies. About 16,000 had intellectual disabilities, of which 180 were test-tube babies. The researchers found that test-tube babies did not increase the risk of autism compared with babies born naturally.

The researchers stressed that the vast majority of test-tube babies are "completely healthy." Their study simply provides parents and hospitals with the necessary information about the risks of in vitro fertilization technology so that they can make the best choice. More research is needed to verify the above risks.

At present, there are about 1 million test-tube babies born every year in the world. The use of test-tube baby technology is becoming more and more popular. In schools in the United States and Canada, there are even several students in a class who are test-tube babies. This technology has helped more and more families solve reproductive problems. In the United States, Canada and other countries, test-tube babies have become a very common means of treating infertility. If infertility cannot be cured, you can choose to do test-tube babies, which is no different from other means of treating diseases.

The third generation of test tube baby gene screening technology - test tube babies are healthier than naturally conceived babies

With the development of IVF technology, the third generation IVF technology is becoming more mature. The so-called third generation technology, namely: pre-implantation genetic disease diagnosis, is mainly aimed at the couple's family with genetic diseases. This technology is to prevent abnormal genes from being passed on to offspring. It can block a variety of known human genetic diseases from the door of life, so that infertile couples can have healthy offspring. At the same time, it can also prevent common chromosomal abnormalities in the embryos of older women to achieve the purpose of eugenics.

Prospective parents can use the third-generation IVF genetic screening technology (PGD/PGS) to perform chromosome analysis on embryos, which can screen for 125 genetic diseases and chromosomal diseases, and can effectively avoid specific chromosomal or gene abnormalities.

If there is a hereditary disease in the family, the couple can use the third-generation IVF technology to exclude embryos with such abnormal genes. If the expectant mother has repeated processes during natural pregnancy, the third-generation IVF gene screening technology can also exclude embryos with abnormal chromosome values and structures, so as to select healthy embryos for transplantation and ensure the healthy development of the embryos in the mother's body.

Therefore, compared with babies conceived normally, the third-generation IVF technology adds an extra layer of protection for the baby's healthy development, and to a certain extent, it is healthier than children conceived naturally.

Can children born from test-tube babies give birth to the next generation normally?

In fact, parents who choose to have children through in vitro fertilization are most concerned about whether in vitro fertilization can give birth to the next generation normally?

This worry is unnecessary. Louise Brown, the world's first test-tube baby, got married in 2004 and has since given birth to two baby boys.

Test-tube babies can give birth to the next generation just like normally conceived children.

Can IVF abroad guarantee better health?

Foreign IVF research started many years earlier than China, and the technology is relatively more mature. If you have enough money and time, it is a good choice to go abroad for IVF. In particular, the IVF technology in the United States and Canada is relatively advanced. If the expectant mother is older, or has not been successful after multiple IVF attempts in China, you can choose the United States and Canada.

In addition, if you choose to go to the United States or Canada for IVF, it is best to choose a professional and reliable consulting company. After all, going to a foreign country for medical treatment, you will feel helpless because you don’t speak the language, you are unfamiliar with the place, and you don’t know the local hospital conditions. A professional and experienced consulting company can help you solve these problems and save you a lot of trouble.
